Amy Vee and the Virtues

Amy Vee began charming audiences with her ethereal indie acoustic repertoire at a tender age, playing solo showcases in venues up and down the East Coast of Australia during the early 2000s. During these formative years, it was Vee’s enchanting vocals and unconventional guitar style that caught the attention of audiences and industry peers. Amy’s unique voice was sought after, allowing her to perform and record with some Australian dance music greats such as Groove Terminator (as Australian tour support for Moby) and ON (ABC Music Awards Artist of the Year).

However, it was the self-penned and honestly delivered musings of a struggling Novocastrian university student that led to a small grant from a local label to feature on a compilation album of works from regional artists. The humble fruits of these sessions contributed to a debut independently released 4-track EP titled All In Me. The title track topped the Australia mp3 charts in its category for over 8 weeks.

Shortly after, Amy recruited three like-minded friends to form a new musical collective known as Amy Vee and The Virtues. The band were the perfect complement to Amy’s sweet subversive music, and proved so on the band’s first EP quintessence, described by Australian Musician’s Media as “truly magical… definitely worth having on your play list”. The band went on to record their debut album Archetype in 2007 and shared the stage with international and local touring acts including Hawksley Workman, The Whitlams, Little Birdy, and many more. The band also enjoyed airplay as a featured artist on NOVAFM in Sydney and Melbourne and picked up several music industry gongs, including MUSICOZ Artist of the Year (2005) and even a nomination for an LA Music Award (2007).

In 2010, the Vee solidified her reputation as a fierce Australian music presence; returning to solo performance and touring tirelessly in her home country and overseas.

Since the launch of her acclaimed EP Sleeping Dogs Lie, Vee has performed scores of live shows along the East Coast, along with performances in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and many places in between. In June, Vee’s tenacity was exemplified when she single-handedly embarked on a month-long tour of England and Scotland, to rave reviews. The EP picked up an ABC Publishing/APRA Songwriters Recognition award among several others.

The extraordinary songstress saw out 2010 at the prestigious Peats Ridge Festival alongside Australian acts such as Angus & Julia Stone and international acts such as Trentmoller (Denmark), Lightspeed Champion (UK) and The Shout Out Louds (Sweden).
