In 1957 there was a black and white documentary film made by the name of The Forerunner. It was meant to inform the Australian public on the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a massive damming project which was then under construction.

In one scene, a group of musicians jam together on a couple of fantastic skiffle/ jazz-tinged folk tunes after a hard day working on the mountains.

Aarght!’s co-owner Leon Stackpole became obsessed with these songs and finally tracked down the masters and the musicians behind them.

They feature veteran Aussie jazz musicians Bob Elliott, Jack Parkes, Eric Dunbar, Ken Hutchings and George Brown, as well as country/folk musos, Herbie Marks and Dick Carr.

This 7” is a remarkable artifact, beautifully housed in a foldout 6-panel sleeve with photos, liner notes and graphics which make it look like an old Folkways record.
