SLEEPMAKESWAVES TOUR 2012
Sydney based instrumental rockers SLEEPMAKESWAVES have announced an extensive Australian tour, celebrating the recent success of their debut ‘!and so we destroyed everything.’ The band’s “(hello) Australia” tour sees them visiting 6 states in February and March, before heading overseas to showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas and then embarking on a headlining European tour, including co-headlining Belgium’s Dunk! Festival, alongside Pelican, This Will Destroy You and 65daysofstatic.
sleepmakeswaves’ debut album “!and so we destroyed everything” has gone from strength to strength since its release in late 2011 through independent label Bird’s Robe Records. After just 1 week of release, the album was the top selling record on Bandcamp worldwide and remains one of the highest selling Australian releases. The first single from the release, a driving melodic anthem titled ‘(HELLO) CLOUD MOUNTAIN,’ has been receiving airplay on Australian radio including Triple J, FBi and RRR and as far afield as the BBC.
ASWDE was named ‘Record of the Week’ by KOOP radio (Texas) and Nowlikephotographs and featured in a diverse number of year-end lists, including Drum Media, TheMusic.com.au, Sputnik Music and Metal Obsession. The album is a dramatic showcase for the band - glittering melodic hooks are embossed by lush production and the band’s heaving musicianship. With an array of memorable and climactic sequences, “!and so we destroyed everything” signals the band’s continued desire to push into new musical territory.
Formed in 2006, the young group’s bold approach and their captivating live show have earned them high profile international supports with the likes of Mono, Pelican, Russian Circles, Boris and Unitopia, as well as festival appearances including Peats Ridge, Menagerie and Progfest. Their cinematic production and ambitious songcraft has seen airplay nationally and internationally, as well as considerable goodwill amongst progressively-minded listeners and journalists, with over 50,000 people downloading their tracks and sold out shows across the country.
