Michael Plater is a solo singer/songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia.

Taking in various indie, lounge, folk, gothic, and “noir” influences, his music has been compared to such artists as Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, and Joy Division.

In 2004 Michael released the bare-boned (voice and guitar) 4 track e.p “These Mad Windows.” This was followed in by the late 2005 release of his debut cd “Rented Rooms.” Featuring such instrumentation as cello, accordion, brush drums, organ, and acoustic and electric guitars, the album was a more fleshed-out affair, recorded sporadically between June 2004 and August 2005.

Michael regularly plays around Australia, and has attracted an ever-increasing international audience, particularly in Europe.
