Worldfly
worldfly is out of Darwin, Northern Territory. Their music is passionate and honest. Songwriters Michael Maher and Joh Geaney have developed their own unique, sensual style, and together with Rebecca Harris on cello this band is breaking down the boundaries between the rock and classical world, creating a uniquely distinctive sound.

The band is packed with talent, starting with the writing and composing skills of Michael Maher and Joachim Geaney. These guys also produce all but one of the 6 tracks on the EP. Michael is the lead vocalist, his style is soft and gentle around the edges but rich with a deep emotional well at its core, his guitar style is never intrusive there’s no big lead breaks here just a rhythm to accompany a driving back line, with Mark Smith on drums giving a sensitive working over of the toms and snare. James Mangohig is a fine bass player and gives up his signature full sound. Cellist Rebecca Harris brings an unmatched quality to this outfit, with Geaney’s playful keyboards elevating this soulful mix. This band has broad appeal.

Cathryn Doney, Mindil Music programmer agrees "….They have a compelling sound somewhere between Coldplay and Ed Harcourt, and they are definitely going places, ….This is one of the most exiting bands I have heard coming out of Darwin in a long time"

The music is rich, ironic, and romantic with a pervading melancholic beauty that speaks of shared histories and experiences. Someone Special written by Michael Maher is definitely high rotation radio play.

Another stand out track and one that will resonate with punters is Geaney’s Kozy “…I’d like to know more about you…” we’ve all been there right!

These guys are well-seasoned and well-prepared. They have already supported leading Australian performers, and Bands such as: Pete Murray, The Living End and Taxi Ride as well as clock up a number of awards including the Prestigious Australian Songwriters Association ‘Songwriter of the Year’ Award for their song Someone Special, written by Michael Maher. The ASA National Songwriting Contest is Australia’s longest running songwriting contest for professional and amateur songwriters. It attracts over 2500 entrants Australia wide, every year!

worldfly have just released their debut EP ‘Beautiful Place’ which was recorded in Sydney’s Velvet Studios, 2005.
