TZU
From the bowels of Melbourne comes the Taoist stink of TZU; plop songsters, freestyle hip-shooters, audio bushrangers howling raucously on a hijacked carriage toward your nearest venue... audience members become besotted. Leave your home, quit your job, go bush. But come to a TZU gig first. History: Linked by their obsession for freestyle rhymes and with a respect for each others talents, Tzu was formed in 1999 as a side project combining members of Curse ov Dialect and Pan. Gigs used to consist of an old couch on stage, a bottle of red wine and constant banter with the audience. The aim was to have fun. Still is. And always will be. Members: Joelistics: MC, producer, multi instrumentalist and Ray Charles impersonator. Joelistics relationship with hip hop is currently on the rocks. He has become a borderline obsessive blues fan and has been known to scream at the top of his lungs and in intoxicated states " I'm a black soul singer from the 60's displaced in time". Of coarse a healthy self administered slap to the face cures this delusion and he gets back to what he's good at...drinking the rider. Emseed/Countbounce: vocalist, songwriter, producer. Whilst producing and writing music for local rappers such as Urthboy, Equills, Mantra and Elf Transporter...Countbounce also is the other half of pop/soul outfit 'the commas', and half of the production/mixing team 'The Containers’. When not in the studio, Pip can be found by the banks of the Yarra, somewhere upstream with a nylon string guitar writing a new TZU track and jotting down raps onto a muddy page, or drinking pinot on the porch with his partner and his dog. Paso Bionic: Turntables, production. Paso Bionic has been involved in music production since 1994. He is a member of outlaw hip-hop rebels Curse ov Dialect, handling their music for both production and live performance. He is also a part of the Symbiotic collective, whose members include Music Vs Physics and Carbon. Yeroc: Beats, samples, production, drums Yeroc has been producing music since 1994. Inspired by beer , wine and soft tacos . He started making beats in his bedroom in New Zealand and then moved to Australia and joined a shit house band as their beats and production.and then joined tzu thinking it was a gas company. He is also a skilled table tennis player wanna be quiz master and avid lounge music record collector. He has honed the art of cooking beats and has developed a style of production thats raw ,salted and delivered with pleasure. Live Performance: They mix up the live format with tight, well-rehearsed flows and freestyle improvisations. Using mics, turntables, sampler, Wurlitzer piano, guitar and bass , no two shows are ever the same. Having the collective experience of playing in live bands and working with hiphop crews over a number of years, Tzu know how to put on an entertaining show and keep the audience bumping.
