School Of Emotional Engineering, brainchild of Melbourne’s Ben Frost, an artist renowned for a strange breed of music - beautifully f*#ked up melancholy & grinding atmospherics. Journalist Christine Piper once accurately remarked, "...I’m not sure what its all about, but like the pensive characters in a Hal Hartley film, I know its beautiful..."
School Of Emotional Engineering's self-titled debut is an intriguing mark on the contemporary musical landscape. A wall to wall onslaught of searing 'Pixies'-esque' guitar distortion surges by like a passing storm, or a slow motion freight train, slowly surrendering to the delicate bowing of a cello and the creaking of a piano stool, the subtlety and organic, 'bumps, scratches and all' nature of '...engineering' is captivating. The sense of deconstructed rock and roll and filmic narrative culminates in a rare and remarkably original voice.
Frost's notoriety as a producer grew rapidly when he was named Noise 'Remix Artist of the Year' on JJJ radio for his transformation of Something For Kate’s ‘Monsters’. Frost has produced work with artists such as Neotropic (UK), Sea Life Park, Gomez (UK), David Bridie, & Valgeir Sigursson (Iceland) and is currently co-producing the second album for Gelbison.
School Of Emotional Engineering's self-titled album will be released 16th August 04 by Architecture Label and distributed by Shock Distribution.
