Kizmet
[May 2003] If you had been listening to Triple J recently you may have caught the high energy sound of emerging rock-metal outfit Kizmet. With a new recording that features 4 original red-hot tunes, it seems the sky is the limit these days for the boys from the Sunshine Coast who are looking forward to the national release of their self-titled EP in September this year.

Kizmet, who are Brett – (vocals), James (guitar), Andrew – (bass) and Dean (drums) have been working towards this moment for over three years, releasing two earlier EPs independently before being picked up by Woof! Records Australia exclusively this year. At the onset, Woof’s aim was to transplant then showmanship and energy of a live Kizmet performance into a big production recording, enlisting ARIA award winner Anton Hagop (Silverchair – Diorama) in the production seat, who in his own words, described the Kizmet sound as, “So Now” that he literally could not wait to work with them. And at first listen it's obvious why, the result is pure rock-metal alchemy that has a catchy commercial feel to it, featuring big sounds and high sensitivities.

If the pre-release reviews are any indication, Kizmet could well be the mother lode of rock-metal with Nick Stephan of Skinny’s Music recently commenting that, “Kizmet stray from the trappings and boundaries of standard nu-metal to create something that is much stronger and more powerful than any Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park record could ever hope to be. High praise maybe, but if Kizmet manage to grow with each release yet still continue to write songs like the ones featured on this CD there is no limit to what they can achieve." These are sentiments echoed by Costa Zouliou of Triple J, who described the new EP as “a monster of a recording”. It is no accident that the Kizmet sound is currently being featured on the station’s Full Metal Racket Show. It's unusual to find an EP that bridges a variety of rock-metal styles with the heavy infantry guitar sounds of “Hitman” through the hypnotic “So Alive” to the haunting electric metal finish of “Solitude”. This is an EP that runs the gauntlet of the rock metal experience. Kizmet have a sound, style and message all of their own.
