Laura Imbruglia likes Queen. A lot. She also enjoys the soothing sounds of The Carpenters and cites cicadas as one of her main influences. She plays quirky electro-clash punk folk rock/pop on an acoustic guitar, without the electro-clash part. Laura sings about vegans, her 1st boyfriend (Ben Castelli), internet love, her inabilities as a lover, and any random thoughts that enter her mind- "I want a magical washing machine that doubles as a jukebox", "When I was a kid I feared the choking hazard of my toys"...etc.
She's already supported the likes of The Eels, Tegan & Sara, Tenacious D, Beth Orton, M. Ward, Alex Lloyd, Jodi Phillis, Ben Lee and Big Heavy Stuff, not to mention a Homebake 2002 performance to an enthusiastic crowd on the acoustic stage.
It Makes A Crunchy Noise is the name of her debut EP. This little firecracker was recorded and produced by Candle Records' Tim Oxley, and features some gorgeous harmonies from both Tim & The Clouds' Jodi Phillis. This 6-track introduction to the land of Laura is available now through her own label Ready Freddie Records (distributed by MGM).
In October of 2006, Laura returned to the stage with a new band and her highly anticipated debut Self Titled album. It's a mix of her classic pop sensibility and punk attitude... and it%uFFFDs this unusual blend of styles that makes her debut album an underground pop gem. Check out songs like %uFFFDLooking For A Rabbit%uFFFD and %uFFFDMy Opus%uFFFD (10 minutes of pure acidic ecstasy). They%uFFFDre the perfect illustration of both her disarming originality as a songwriter and the punchy and infectious power of her band. Tim Powles%uFFFD (drummer of The Church) production & the cast of cameos %uFFFD Dave Rennick (Dappled Cities Fly), the Hard Ons%uFFFD Blackie and Koool G Murder (The Eels) %uFFFD all add their sonic and musical muscle.
